Patrice Cannon has been selected as the new leader of Millwood High School. Cannon has held numerous influential roles in the field of education, including teacher, state instructional coach, principal at both elementary and middle school levels, and various positions within district and state departments of education.
Before embarking on her educational career, Mrs. Cannon served in the Army for seven years, achieving the rank of sergeant before her honorable discharge in 2004. She then settled in Texas.
In 2008, Mrs. Cannon began teaching at an at-risk school within the Temple Independent School District in Texas, where she played a crucial role in elevating the school's performance to “Recognized” status by the state.
In 2012, after moving to Oklahoma, Mrs. Cannon became a state instructional coach, collaborating with over 25 school districts in Southeast Oklahoma to enhance instructional practices, leading to significant improvements in reading and math across multiple schools.
Mrs. Cannon joined Oklahoma City Public Schools in 2013 as an assistant principal at Thelma Parks Elementary. She later served as head principal at Edwards Elementary for four years, where she drove significant advancements in reading and math proficiency, improved teacher retention, and increased community engagement.
After her success at Edwards Elementary, Patrice became the Teacher/Leader Effectiveness Coordinator for the district, where she delivered professional development on instructional frameworks and trained administrative interns.
In 2020, Mrs. Cannon was appointed head principal of FD Moon Middle School. Over her four-year tenure, she led transformative changes that lifted the school from a low-performing status to one of the district's top-performing middle schools. Her leadership was pivotal in removing the school from the state’s school improvement list, exceeding district averages in academic growth for reading and math, and improving the school’s letter grade on the state's A-F report card.
Mrs. Cannon's steadfast dedication to educational excellence and transformative leadership has made a lasting impact on every institution she has served.
